The history of glass lenses dates back to the 1st century CE when Seneca the Younger observed magnification through water-filled glass. By the llth century, Arab scholar Ibn al-Haytham studied concave and conver lenses, paving the way for the development of "reading stones" in 13th-century Italy. These semi-spherical lenses evolved into the first eyeglasses around 1286, aiding monks in reading. By the 17th century, graded lenses improved vision correction, and in the 19th century, Otto Schott advanced optical glass technology. Today, glass lenses continue to evolve with enhanced materials and coatings for improved clarity and protection.
