The 'transfer technique, perfected in England around 1760, revolutionized the production of beautiful dishes, making them accessible to the masses. Esteemed potteries like Wedgwood and Copeland-Spode were among the early creators of English transferware, crafting an array of patterns in a spectrum of colors, with Black and Mulberry being particularly rare. This artistry was applied to various ceramics such as earthenware, porcelain, and ironstone. The process involved etching designs onto copper plates, applying paint, and then transferring the image onto tissue paper. This paper was subsequently pressed onto a dish and fired in a kiln to set the image.
